At Primal Earth we believe that natural ingredients are better than synthetic ones. And by using ingredients such as mamuku fern extract to lubricate, harakeke flax oil to heal and protect and Aloe Vera to hydrate we can create products free of the toxic irritants so common in other products.
ALOE VERA EXTRACT – Healing
A North African native, the long known healing properties of Aloe Vera have seen it spread throughout the world. The gel in the leaves stimulates cell regeneration providing health benefits that have been used for medicinal purposes for more than 3500 years. A vast amount of research has been done on Aloe Vera which has proven to be very effective in the treatment of various dry skin disorders such as eczema. It is often used in cosmetics for its moisturizing, anti-inflammation and antifungal properties.
MAMUKU FERN EXTRACT – Healing and lubricating
The Mamuku fern is commonly found throughout the North and South islands of New Zealand. Historically Maori used it as a poultice for minor skin irritations and afflictions. Today, Mamuku is used as a natural skin lubricator providing healing razor glide and slip.
HARAKEKE FLAX - Antiseptic, soothing & healing
Harakeke is a striking plant that features dominantly in the New Zealand landscape. It is native to New Zealand and a handful of Pacific Islands. Harakeke is renowned for the clear polysaccharide gel exudates produced on the surface of leaves at the base. This gel is often referred to as the New Zealand Aloe Vera gel. We use it extensively in our products for its skin soothing and hydrating properties. It is a superior natural alternative to petro-chemically derived synthetic gels.
GREEN TEA EXTRACT - Antioxidant & Anti-irritant
Green Tea Extract is an active anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory. In addition, it has the ability to inhibit collagenase –the enzyme that degrades collagen and the vascular endothelium. It is commonly used in sensitive skin and hair care products to improve strength and gloss.
Understanding Skin Irritation
With the amount of products we use on our skin – from body wash to moisturiser, face wash to shave foam it’s no wonder our skin is protesting. Allergies and reactions are increasingly commonplace as chemicals and additives interact causing irritation and dryness or rashes – and even some that may be potentially harmful.
Many of the common complaints people have relate to the skincare products they use. Even low levels of certain products can have an effect, and all too often these things aren’t realised as being the source of the problem.
It’s the ingredients we use that make the difference. Right from the outset we left out the potentially harmful and irritating chemicals, choosing to start with a natural base. And as we set off down this path we decided we’d also aim to use certified organic ingredients, free of genetic modification. Simple really, why make it difficult?
