-->

Auckland and former All Black centre Ben Atiga knows just how important it is to look good with the ball in hand when he's is playing. But he also knows that looking slick off the field is important in today's world and was more than happy to give his thoughts on the Primal Earth skincare range for men.

How would you rate your usual skin care regime?

Yeah I haven't been too bad on the old face care. I wouldn't really call it a regime though. Doug Howlett got me into looking after my skin - he always told me, "You've got to exfoliate mate! So I used to use these scratchy gloves."

Ow! Did you use them on your face?

Yes - but now I prefer to use a flowing soap which probably isn't that great - it's only one step up from using soap.

So how did you find using the Primal Earth Face Wash?

It was great in the shower - couple of seconds and you've got rid of all the blood, sweat and mud, and your skin feels really clean without that really tight feeling that soap leaves. (And a whole lot less scratchy than the gloves). The rest of the team loved the face wash too. I left my pack in the shower and the guys were all over it!

Ok, so what's the rundown on your shaving technique?

My skin is quite sensitive so I only shave once a week - usually the day before a game - I like to feel slick - every bit counts - a smooth shave makes me run faster.

<pDid you notice a difference using the Primal Earth Shaving Gel?>

"Yeah, it made it really easy to shave. the gel made the razor glide smoothly and afterwards there was no shaving rash which I sometimes get."

Do you moisturise?

Yeah of course I use a moisturiser - well actually not always, but you know - most of the time - when I'm not being lazy.

What did you think of the Primal Earth Moisturiser?

Really easy to put on, pleasant smell, and I think it made my skin look brighter!

What did you like best about the Primal Earth products?

The fact that they are organic makes me feel really good about using them. I'm on a strict health diet, and I think if I'm putting good food into my body, it makes sense to be putting on something good onto my skin too.

How many grooming items would you usually have in your sports bag?

Usually only about 4, but I'll have another 3 now!

Did you know you can buy Primal Earth products from the supermarket?

Really? Are you kidding? - I though as it's organic, it would be quite top end in price. but that's great.

Like 60% of Kiwi guys I grew up with sensitive skin

I was one of those kids with asthma, eczema and allergic reactions to pollens and dust mites - lots of fun…to this day I still can’t use standard foams or face shaving creams without breaking out with contact dermatitis, which can stay red for several weeks. So my journey started into an awareness of the daily use of chemicals that we bombard our bodies with.

With a lack of alternative products available in supermarkets I teamed up with Anthony Gadsdon to create Primal Earth, a high performance organic skincare range.

We developed Primal Earth on the basis that we’d rather know what we’re putting on our skin, than be confused by a raft of chemicals ingredients no-one really knows the long term impact of. Compare the ingredient list from our products to those you’re using now and see for yourself.

Right from the outset, we chose to use certified organic, plant based, wild or locally harvested raw materials, leaving out potentially harmful and irritating chemicals. Believing that if it’s on your skin - you should inform yourself.

Primal Earth products are all pure, safe and free from chemicals like parabens and sulphates.

This is news to me: I just read an alarming report about a carcinogenic ingredient being used in children's and women's bath products.

An article from Health News Digest reports that "A hidden cancer-causing petrochemical has been found in dozens of children's bath products and adults' personal care products, in some cases at levels that are more than twice the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's lenient recommended maximum.

Laboratory tests revealed the presence of 1,4-Dioxane in products such as Hello Kitty Bubble Bath, Huggies Baby Wash, Johnson's Baby Wash, Scooby-Doo Bubble Bath and Sesame Street Bubble Bath. The tests also found the carcinogen in Clairol Herbal Essences shampoo, Olay Complete Body Wash and many other personal care products.

1,4-Dioxane is a petroleum-derived contaminant considered a probable human carcinogen by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and a clear-cut animal carcinogen by the National Toxicology Program. It is also on California's Proposition 65 list of chemicals known or suspected by the state to cause cancer or birth defects. Because it is a contaminant produced during manufacturing, the FDA does not require it to be listed as an ingredient on product labels."

I encourage you to read the full article. Did you know that the FDA "does not review or regulate cosmetics products or ingredients for safety before they are sold to the public and has no legal authority to require safety assessments of cosmetics?"

The article goes on to list the brand names of products tested.

It seems that a lot of people who try to eat well and check the amount of calories of every meal are still stuck with those pounds inadvertently accumulated that resist any kind of sacrifice we endure to make them go away. Diet Pills and quick fix diets promise to but they never mention the bill, for both your health and your wallet. After years of experience in nutrition I can't give you an instant solution that will make thouse pounds disappear in a few hours but I can point you towards something that will give you that final boost to get rid off the weight once and for all. The final boost is organic food.

Organic Foods are cultivated without
preservatives, pesticides, hormones, or any other harmful chemicals.
They are designed to grow in harmony with the environment and work
within the human body satisfying it's nutritional needs creating far
less stress than their non-organic counterparts. Eating healthy organic
food is the key to take off those excess pounds naturally without
spending a fortune in diet treatments.

When you compare the
nutrients present in organic fruits or vegetables to their
traditionally grown counterparts, you'll find them to have a
significantly larger amount of beneficial substances. In some cases,
you'll see three times more vitamins and proteins in organic foods. One
study showed organic oranges half the size of traditionally grown
oranges containing more vital nutrients. By eating the appropriate
amounts (vary depending on your height, complexion and age) of organic
fruits and vegetables you can end your dependence multivitamin pills,
by giving your body every essential nutrient you need in a much safer
and cheaper way.

If you doubt that organic produces are
healthier, consider the fact that artificial chemicals widely in many
foods nowadays are relatively new and have only been consumed for a
small fraction of the time humans have been on this planet, making
their long time effects unknown.

It's also important to
understand that our bodies are not designed to process all those,
preservatives pesticides and hormones and therefore place excess stress
upon vital organs, specially the liver. The end result is a build up of
potentially dangerous chemicals in the fat stores of your body which
has been linked to the storing of even more fat. I've already mentioned
how consuming natural nutrients and eliminating harmful chemicals of
your diet helps your body function more efficiently, but you're
probably wondering how this helps you to lose that weight.

First
of all, when you eat organic foods your body is able to digest them
more quickly and efficiently. Since it doesn't have to deal with those
chemicals, your metabolism's speed increases (something essential for
losing weight), also allowing you to use the full energy potential of
your food. This means you'll be less tired and ready to get up and
move. You'll also have extra energy to exercise and burn off even more
unwanted calories. Studies have also found that laboratory rats who
were fed organic food sleep better. That means you'll rest better
making it easier to seize the day, starting with a morning jog if you
wish it. Yes, just by eating organic food you'll significantly improve
your quality of life, for a fraction of what vitamin supplements would
cost.

Another advantage of eating organic is that you'll be less
likely to get sick. Eating organic helps provide your system with the
proper nutrients to stay healthy as well as providing your body with
more energy to fight off infection. All this will reduce your medical
bills while also making less likely to lose job days due to sickness.
While switching to an organic diet is a excellent way to lose weight,
you must remember to eat the right organic foods. I recommend those
that contain lots of fiber, plenty of fruits and vegetables are the
perfect choice along with small amounts of protein and carbohydrates.

I hope this helps you to shed those pounds.

We often wonder why some people seem to have
everything in life and some people just get disappointments. It seems
unfair to us at times that there could be such discrimination that some
of us get everything that they dream of and some of us never seem to
get anything that we ever hoped for. We often blame external factors
for our disappointments, God, bad luck or just any person to whom we
can shift the blame. But the truth is that there is no one to blame but
us.

If you succeed it is because of you, and if you fail it is
also because of you. If you just stop for a moment and think about it
you must realize that others might be doing things a bit differently
that is why they get everything that they want out of life. Yes, what
they do differently is the way they think. What you think and what you
believe in are the two main things that decide whether you succeed or
you fail.

People who succeed are able to succeed only because
they think differently than the rest, their belief system is different
than the rest of the population. And how do they think differently? The
only way they succeed is because they believe with all their heart that
they are meant to succeed. They believe in themselves whole heartedly,
without even a shadow of doubt.

Most of us who do not succeed often have doubts about ourselves; we would have a doubt in
some corner of our heart about our capability to succeed. When you do
not believe that you can succeed, nobody else can. Self doubt can be a
very powerful thing, even though you do not realize, it can affect the
way you go about things, it can affect how you work towards your goal.

If,
for example, Einstein did not believe in himself he would not have been
able to work relentlessly till he succeeded. He would have given up
after a few times if he had thought that he did not have it in him to
succeed. The only reason that he succeeded was because he knew that he
was capable of doing it, he believed in himself and that is what drove
him to be successful. Call it the law of attraction or anything else,
but it is absolutely true. Your thoughts and your beliefs shape you as
a person.

What you think is what you become, if you think that
you have limitations then you will. If you think that you are not meant
to be rich you would not be. The sooner you realize this, the better it
would be for you. In order to change this pattern of constant
negativity and disappointments you must:

Try to always stay
positive. You must make it a habit to think of positive things at all
times and push away any negative thoughts from your mind.

Have a clear goal in mind and believe without a doubt that you can achieve this goal.

Human mind is a very powerful thing, once you know how to make use
of it and cultivate a positive belief system, you too can be successful.

When starting any exercise or workout routine,
especially if you have been sedentary or unfit for a long time it is
always a good idea to seek the advice and permission from your doctor
before you begin. Another important factor is your mindset. You should
go into this patiently and not focusing on the end result. Rather focus
on doing each exercise session well on each relevant day always trying
to improve your performance each session that you do. The end result
will thus take care of itself. So like any Zen way of looking at
things, make the work you do the most important factor.

First
start by building up what is called an aerobic base; in other words
train and strengthen your cardiovascular system exclusively for the
first four weeks. You can do this by just doing cardiovascular exercise
for 15 minutes everyday or 35 minutes, three days a week. Good
exercises to do this would be walking briskly, running or cycling
intensely, but gently. As long as you are breathing reasonably hard
during the exercise or workout routine, you are training correctly.
Gently try to push yourself a little more with each session to improve
your fitness. Remember the race in against yourself alone so try not to
over train. The typical symptoms of over-training are trouble sleeping,
irritability, lacking a sex drive and bad dreams. Always be on the
lookout for these symptoms.

After you have built yourself a
strong aerobic base and have more confidence, it is time to start
adding your strength training. Keep training aerobically as a warm up
though, for fifteen to twenty minutes then hit the weight room or any
resistance training method for an hour. Finish of by doing some
stretching for fifteen minutes to build flexibility. All in all, you

three to a maximum of four days a week to allow your muscle time to
rebuild and recover.

It is a good idea to keep combining
cardiovascular training to burn fat and build fitness as well a
strength training to build muscle. Muscles are the furnaces in which

other relevant media for different exercise and workout routines that

procedure patiently.
